A Good Restaurant in Vicenza
La Pausa
Address:
Viale S. Lazzaro, 65 Vicenza
Telephone: 0444 562407
Normally I enjoy restaurants where the locals eat, but, now and again, I'll discover somewhere totally unusual—somewhere like this restaurant.
You'll find a few locals here, but they aren't in the majority.
You'll find no tourists either.
What you will find are lots of Southern Italians, immigrants to the north of Italy, enjoying some of the great dishes of the south. The owners, Giussepe and Tina, are from the south, Naples to be exact, and portions are typically huge. The restaurant is full of bubbly Italian life in all its varieties.
As you step inside, the first thing you'll notice is the bustling atmosphere, filled with the sound of laughter and conversation.
The restaurant is a popular haunt for everyone, from well-dressed elderly men enjoying a coffee at the corner tables to young men with names like Salvo and Rocco chatting animatedly at nearby tables. Families from Sicily to Naples and all points in-between fill most of the remaining tables, adding to the lively and welcoming atmosphere.
Children run all over the restaurant, greeted with open arms by every patron they pass. The staff are equally friendly and always happy to make recommendations if you're unsure what to order.
Speaking of which, the menu is a veritable feast of Southern Italian cuisine. Seafood lovers will be in heaven with dishes like the seafood spaghetti, which is out of this world. For something truly special, try the four-course seafood menu in the evening - it's a culinary experience that you won't forget in a hurry.
But it's not just seafood that this restaurant does well. Their pizza, made in a traditional wood-fired oven, is simply superb. Naples is famous for its pizza, and this restaurant certainly lives up to that reputation. If you're feeling adventurous, try one of their more unusual pizza toppings - they won't disappoint. Neither will the simple, traditional pizzas either; their pizza margherita is true to the original, the one and only, Neapolitan margherita.
For lunchtimes, the three-course set menu is great value for money, and you can be sure that the house wine will complement the menu of the day perfectly. And if you're not sure what to order, don't worry - the staff are always happy to make suggestions based on your tastes.
Getting to the restaurant is easy, but it's a little way away from the old town, so a taxi is your best bet. It's worth the journey, though, especially if you're looking for a great restaurant in Vicenza that won't break the bank.
In conclusion, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who wants to experience the warmth, vibrancy, and delicious cuisine of Southern Italy. Whether you're looking for seafood, pizza, or something else entirely, you won't be disappointed. So what are you waiting for? Book a table today and enjoy a taste of Southern Italy right here in Vicenza.
